QSlide On LG Optimus G

The QSlide feature on the LG Optimus G is a multitasker's best friend. Unlike the multiwindow function on the Samsung GALAXY Note II, which lets you cut the screen in half to use two apps at the same time, QSlide doesn't require the user to use the apps in a cramped space on the screen. With QSlide, two apps are using the device's 4.7 inch screen at once and one or the other app becomes translucent by sliding the QSlide controls. Controlling the level of translucency for each app, the user can watch a video while composing email, send a text while browsing the web, or do any type of multitasking while still using the full 4.7 inch display.
Video shows how LG developed its multitasking tool, QSlideIt's a brilliant idea and the story of how it was discovered makes you realize that inspiration can come anywhere, from anything or anybody. While LG's Senior Research Engineer Sebastian Hochan Song was driving in a car with his younger sister and nephew, the windows on the car fogged up. Watching his nephew draw on the fogged-up window from the rear-view mirror, it looked to Song as though his nephew was drawing on a transparent layer over the background of the outside. It was as though he was drawing on two layers and the engineer could see both of them at the same time. With this, QSlide was born.

While LG was able to make the second layer appear right away, controlling the level of translucency was difficult, according to Song. But the concept has been perfected and it is now one of the new features on the LG Optimus G.

Samsung Is Steady With Apple

Apple

Despite a report in the Korea Times on Monday quoting a Samsung Display executive as saying that Samsung would stop shipping displays to Apple next year, the Korean based tech giant has refuted the quote and says that the strange relationship between the two will continue. Obviously, Apple and Samsung feel at ease with each other regardless if it's in the courtroom or in the boardroom.

"Samsung Display has never tried to cut the supply for LCD panels to Apple."-Samsung spokesman
Samsung says it is not divorcing AppleThe report earlier Monday in the Korean paper said that because of discounts, Samsung was not earning enough money from sales of its displays to Apple which led to the decision by Samsung to stop shipping product to the Cupertino based firm. Samsung, denying the entire story, has requested that the Korea Times edit it. Both sides are at each other's throats in a series of court battles around the world. As a result, Apple has said that it wants to end its reliance on Samsung for certain critical parts that go into products that Apple competes against Samsung with, such as the processor and displays for the Apple iPhone 5 and the third generation Apple iPad.

Apple has been looking to source displays from LG and Sharp and recent water cooler talk has the company replacing Samsung with TSMC for chips.

Final Update Of Skype To Symbian Belle

If you are the proud owner of a Nokia 808 PureView a Nokia 701 or another Symbian Belle FP2 updated device, you may be happy to know that Skype is back in the Nokia Store.

One last update to Skype is now available for Symbian Belle devices
This is version 2.1.23, which was released some months ago, but it was apparently not fully tested. Now fully tested, the app is now available again. It is a voice and chat application only. No video calling is present within the app, though picture, video and other files may be exchanged.

One last update to Skype is now available for Symbian Belle devices
Outside of that, the app will support Skype-to-Skype calling via Wi-Fi or over a cellular data connection. Unfortunately, like Symbian, you will not have to hold your breath for further updates of this application, barring a critical business case to do so within a “maintenance” environment.

Nokia India Facebook Page Hints At Lumia 510

Nokia Lumia 510 has been in the news for quite some time. Now, Nokia India's Facebook page wrote a post hinting at the soon to be announced Lumia 510, as seen below. The post was later removed.

The Lumia 510 is a budget Windows Phone with a 4-inch, WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, 800MHz processor and 256MB of RAM. The specs look similar to the Lumia 610, in fact the display is a bit bigger, so it's not clear whether it will be priced lower than the 610 or if it will replace it.

Nexus 10 & 3G Nexus 7

You may have heard by now about the October 29 event scheduled by Google. While a new Nexus phone is what everyone is expecting, it seems Google might surprise us with a couple more tricks.

The first one is something we have already seen, and that is the 32GB Nexus 7 that is actually on sale in several places in the US. What we haven’t seen so far is a 3G version of the Nexus 7, something a lot of people have been waiting for, which is also something that Google is said to unveil during the October 29 event.

According to The Next Web, Google will be announcing a 10-inch tablet manufactured by Samsung, reportedly called the Nexus 10. This tablet will be running Android 4.2 like all the other device announced that day and will have a 2,560 x 1600 resolution display, the highest so far for any tablet.

Regarding Android 4.2, the OS is said to feature something called ‘content in the center’, which will let you access the Play Store through a widget on your homescreen, ‘Tablet Sharing’ for having multiple user accounts on your Android tablet and support for horizontal as well as vertical panoramic mode.
